How can a content management system cater through dynamic business processes in the education system?
Role
Sr. Product Designer, Design Manager
Timeline
since 2023
Scope
Admin Console, Content Workflows
Team
Cross-functional

One of Govtech Edu Indonesia missions for teachers is to provide easy access to the best quality teaching resources for class implementation. In order to have a matching content supply and demand, we need to make sure the business process of the contribution system runs seamlessly through a content management system named Ruang Kolaborasi Merdeka Mengajar (RKMM).
Handled and curated by content admins from the internal team (substantial content team) and ministry stakeholders (curriculum & learning body), RKMM is positioned as a centralized hub within Merdeka Mengajar ecosystem where educators can easily upload lesson plans, instructional materials, and best practices, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the educational community.
Although the RKMM system was already designed and implemented before I took over as the appointed designer in early 2023, it still requires significant human intervention from our small content team to effectively operate key functions.
"Imagine… lesser work and effort for our content team and back-end officers. Content supply would be efficiently moderated to be supplied for the teachers!"

In the context of teaching resources (or toolkit product as we called it), RKMM simplifies content management and ensures that resources are organized, substantially up to date, and easily accessible for enhancing classroom learning.
This was the most complex platform I managed over 1.5 years, marking my strategic evolution from an individual contributor to a design manager. Working on this platform highlighted the importance of deep, systematic thinking to address critical challenges while showcasing my versatility in effective communication and facilitation.
To easily navigate my process as a product designer, I will break down this project into multiple acts. Why acts not parts? Well… as I love musicals, let's consider this long case study as a broadway show, me as the main character with imaginative songs (free for you to imagine) and the storyline being the case study.
Act 1
H1 2023 - IC Designer
Streamlining RKMM through the foundation (admin console & contributors management)
Act 2
H2 2023/2024 - Design Manager
